TIJUANA WALL ART

The otherwise dreary prospects of this border town par excellence, famous and infamous, are offset by a wide and varied array of murals painted along the half-mile undulatory boardwalk in this sleepy corner of Tijuana. Each very different from the other, they seem to embody a freedom. The freedom that poverty and desperation foster. In other words the hindrance of external circumstances can form a pooling of ideas and a welling up of expression. The people whom I met there were largely done with the United States, sometimes by choice, but more often by circumstances not of their choosing. All photos shot in Playas Tijuana in May/2012 by James Cook.
